At the start of the Spring Term 2009 we introduced cashless catering throughout the school.
The system had proved to be very successful, with queues being served far more quickly.
The system is a combination of biometric reading and PIN numbers.
Our biometric system is based on fingerprint recognition technology. The system works by taking measurements of the fingerprints, but they do not capture a complete image. This means that the original fingerprint cannot be reconstructed from the data.
The benefits of the system include
- No cash in the dining hall - smoother meal service and has sped up delivery and reduced queues
- Reduced administration through prepayment for meals
- Parents and carers no longer have to worry about finding dinner money each day
- Children with free school meals are anonymous
There are two cash point machines installed that can be used to top up credit accounts and these are be automatically linked to the server controlling the system.
Payments can also be made by cheque, credit card, debit card or PayPoint card. The introduction of Parent Pay has assisted with this process as it has direct links to the cashless catering system to automatically top up accounts.
