All students are taught dance at Key Stage 3. Students can opt to take GCSE Dance at Key Stage 4.
Throughout the two-year Key Stage 4 course students study a variety of Dance genres. These include Ballet, Contemporary, Modern and Street Dance. The course is highly creative and students spend a large amount of time studying professional choreographers and working on their own compositional skills to create original pieces. They also develop their performance and technical skills through a set study, which is a Dance piece set by the exam board. The Theory exam contains some basic questions on anatomy and physiology and more detailed questions on a work by a professional choreographer. The department has a high quality Dance Studio to use as a teaching space and puts on an annual Dance Show which routinely has performers from all year groups.
