ICT - Introduction

Aims

We aim to provide pupils with ICT skills necessary to be able to develop into confident, self-reliant, independent learners throughout their lives. To ensure students leave school with the ICT skills required in the workplace today.

As a Technology College, ICT (Information & Communications Technology) is seen as "the backbone", and is used extensively throughout the whole curriculum, with every subject area using ICT regularly in lessons to support learning. ICT enables pupils to

  • access on-line learning materials
  • undertake Internet research and communicate via email
  • use findings appropriately
  • handle data
  • control devices
  • evaluate and improve work

It is also used to present findings, either for homework, classwork or coursework, in a variety of media. This could be something as simple as a Word print out, through to a multi-media presentation in PowerPoint or a website they have built. Pupils learn to communicate with their intended audiences using correct levels of language and by choosing the best media for the purpose.

All schemes of work are delivered by a team of enthusiastic, specialist teachers.

Some 75% of each year 9 opt to take the subject further at either GCSE or OCR National award in ICT which is a testament both to the popularity of ICT and also the pupils own realisation of how important it is to their futures.
