On Wednesday 20 September we took a group of our new GCSE product design students to the Design Museum in London.

As part of the GCSE course, students participate in the Design Ventura - an exciting national competition which challenges students to design a product for the Design Museum shop. The competition enables students to develop design thinking, creative skills, business capabilities, and employability skills. Working in teams, they are asked to consider the whole design process from initial ideas to budgets, marketing and manufacture to produce a prototype that could be manufactured and sold in the museum shop.

The students were able to participate in a workshop designed to inspire and motivate the students, this was led by industry professionals. They also had time to look around the museum and visit the shop for whom they are designing.  It was a fantastic opportunity at the start of a GCSE course to learn about the design process and to develop skills that will support them throughout the two-year course.  We are looking forward to seeing their developed ideas and outcomes.
