Headteacher - Mr David Conway
Welcome to Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form. We are a very successful and heavily over-subscribed 11-19 mixed comprehensive school.
So why do so many parents choose the school? I would say that we believe that this is because we want exactly the same thing for your child as you do: that your child is safe; that your child is happy; and that your child should succeed at school. Firstly because we share the commitment as a moral and overriding principle of trying to ensure that children can enjoy their time at school, which demands they feel safe whilst here. Secondly our aim of continuing to secure the very best results for each and every young person can only be achieved if the students are happy, safe and comfortable here.
Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form’s ethos is that every child should thrive, and be given the opportunity to succeed both academically and wider, so that each of them has choices about their future later. We do not expect every child to want to go to pursue an academic career post-16 – but we want to prepare as many as possible to be able to do so if they do choose this route. To this end we place an enormous emphasis on academic achievement, and we provide support and encouragement to all children to attain the best possible results in external exams. We are fortunate to have a team of highly skilled and dedicated teachers, and their commitment, knowledge and expertise have enabled us to consistently achieve results comparable to the best similar schools in the country. Supplemented by a wide programme of extra-curricular events and activities, we have a carefully constructed curriculum designed to ensure that our young people also leave with the skills that they need to thrive in the world after school – creativity, independent thought, team working and problem solving -, but in most respects the school has a traditional ethos. We expect high standards of behaviour, and that students will respect the school, its staff, other students, the environment and themselves. The great efforts staff make to develop good and strong working relationships with young people, combined with our rewards system, helps to create the calm atmosphere around school, and the extremely rare instances of disruptive behaviour.
Like all good schools Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form recognise that our success is dependent on a good and strong partnership with the parents/carers of our students, and we therefore look forward to working with you to provide your son or daughter with the best possible start to their adult life.David Conway
