About the School Library
The school library is available to students throughout the school day for research, homework, study or quiet reading. It is open from 8.30am-4.30pm Monday to Thursday, and from 8.30-4.00pm on Friday. Every student is enrolled as a member of the school library. New students will receive their library card during their library induction in their first few weeks of school.
The library has a large collection of both Fiction and Non-Fiction books. New stock is added to the collection on a regular basis. Students may borrow two books at any one time for a period of three weeks. As well as a wide range of books the library has daily newspapers, magazines and the special student newspaper “First News”.
There is a separate library in Braintree Sixth Form.
Library ResourcesThe Library has a bank of 6 networked computers for students to use for Internet research, homework and study. You can also use these computers to find books in the Library using the library catalogue “Eclipse.net”. Eclipse.net is available on all the computers in the library and on any networked computer in school. It holds information on all the books and resources in the library. You can search for particular books, check your own records, place reservations on a book, renew your library books, write a book review, find out about new resources and search for inspiration for your projects or reading using “The Cloud”. The Library Catalogue can also be accessed from home by logging onto the school website and clicking on the Library System icon.
