The study of a language involves both productive and receptive skills, with the aim of becoming a confident and accurate communicator.
Productive skills entail conversation, presentation, translation, as well as structuring essays and arguments. As students develop their skills, they will be able to summarise and analyse text in the language.
Receptive skills include reading and listening with understanding. Students will be able to read and listen for the gist of the meaning, extract information and interpret meaning in a range of text including film and literature.
Through the study of languages, students develop inter-cultural understanding, tolerance and respect for international cultures and history.
