GCSE Results 2008

Students and staff at Notley High School were celebrating their highest ever GCSE results this morning.

Seventy one per cent of students at the school achieved five or more GCSE passes at grades A* - C with ninety seven per cent of students achieving five or more A* - G grades and ninety nine per cent achieving at least one A* - G grade.

The school’s achievement on the new performance measure of five or more A* - C passes including English and mathematics, the headline figure used in the national school performance tables, was fifty three per cent.

It was a day of great celebration for four students who all achieved at least ten A* and A grades in their examinations.  Connie van Zanten and Eleanor March were the top scoring girls at Notley with 7 A* and 4 A grades, and 4 A* and 8 A grades, respectively.  They were closely followed by Joanna Chumbley who achieved 4 A*, 6A and 1 B grade.  Dean Woodcock took the honours for the boys with 6 A* and 4 A grades.

Headteacher, Simon Thompson, said:

“Everyone at the school is delighted with these excellent examination results, the highest we have ever achieved.  We always knew this year group were capable of achieving such excellent results and we congratulate them all on their success.  Teachers and support staff have, once again, played their part in supporting the students and I thank them for their tremendous contribution to the school.  I would also wish to thank all the parents of last year’s Year 11 students for supporting their children through the examinations and the governors of the school for their advice and support.”
