The evening of Monday 12 December certainly was a night to remember. Ten schools in the Braintree area attended the presentation of medallions to their Achievement Award winners, including three Leader Awards for staff.
Every year Notley High School runs a Ski Trip. We travel in February half term and visit Zauchensee in Austria. The trip is open to Yr8- Yr11 students and they don’t have to have skied before to attend as lessons will be included for the whole week.
Ben was nominated by his mother for the two years he has spent attending an Activenture residential facility. He has regularly given up his school holidays – a week at a time – to be an ‘able-bodied buddy’ supporting disabled children in these residential holidays.
Alicia was nominated by four people, including her tutor, for her longstanding charity work. This includes donating £20 of her own money to the Haiti earthquake, walking 18 km for the Farleigh Hospice Sunrise Walk – twice – walking the Braintree and Bocking Carnival 20 km sponsored walk to raise money for Little Havens Children’s Hospice and organising fundraising for BBC Children in Need. Phew!

On Friday 27th January, 10 fortunate Year 10 students were given the opportunity to visit the University of Cambridge.

On Monday 05 December 2011 a group of lovely year 8 students welcomed over 40 elderly people from the local area to their Christmas party.

As the new school year began, 70 year 10 students started their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award. The Award is highly respected by colleges, universities and employers and demonstrates a young person’s commitment, determination, compassion and team-working skills. It is open to all young people between the ages of 14 and 24, regardless of ability or background.
Our first winner for this year is Riley Baker of 9L, who was nominated for his excellence and achievement in football. Riley started playing football at the age of 5 years, when he was encouraged by his family to become a member of Gt Bradfords FC, where he stayed until the age of 9, developing his skills within those 4 years.
Braintree Sixth Form’s First International Baccalaureate and A Level Results
On Monday 16th May 2011 we were invited to an exciting national award ceremony in London to receive our Diana Awards. Mrs Smith kindly nominated us because we raised £628 for Breast Cancer and Motor Neurone Disease charities and we continue to raise money. These are charities that are close to our hearts and have affected our families in some way, as well as many families around the world. We wanted to raise awareness of these charities and help to raise money for research into these illnesses.

The PE faculty at Notley have designed their own website dedicated to the school's talented students in sport. The website highlights some of our students and the sports or activities in which they complete.
Hannah West, 10O, a former Jack Petchey Achievement Award winner, recently competed for England in the Karate World’s Championship in Malaysia. She did herself and her country proud by getting through to the quarter finals, just being beaten by France.
For the first year we have entered students into the Essex Young Chef of the Year competition which is sponsored by Colchester Institute and Anglia Produce. A group of Year 9 students were asked to come up with a 2 course meal for 2 people that included local and seasonal food for under £15.
On Tuesday 13th September, a reporter from The Essex Chronicle visited Notley High School to speak to five Year 7 students. The Essex Chronicle is including a feature in this week’s edition called ‘When I grow up’.

Earlier this year we consulted with parents/carers and other stakeholders about the school's plans to explore academy status. We are grateful to parents/carers and others who contributed to the consultation and those who attended the consultation meeting we arranged.
