Year 7

Transition to secondary school and friendships.

Resilience: Introduction to resilience, De Bono’s thinking hats and understanding the importance of making mistakes.

Making Healthy Choices: Diet, exercise, the importance of sleep and mental health.

Introduction to Careers: Challenging career stereotypes and raising aspirations.  How to access labour market information (LMI).

Resilience: the elements of resilience, my fantastic elastic brain,

Year 8

Resilience: Growth and fixed mindsets, mindset triggers and the power of practice.

Keeping safe 1: Alcohol and drug misuse and smoking.  Managing peer pressure, developing assertiveness and assessing risk. Knife crime awareness.

Keeping safe 2: Road safety and introduction to basic first aid.

Careers: Employability, qualities, skills and values.  How to access labour market information (LMI).

Enterprise Project: Developing teamwork and communication skills.

Year 9

Making Healthy Choices: Work-life balance, emotional and physical wellbeing.  The importance of sleep.  Body image and social media, unhealthy (including eating disorders and self-harm) and healthy coping strategies.

First aid and personal safety.

Internet Safety: staying safe and managing relationships online (including issues around grooming, sexting and explicit images).

Careers: Understanding careers and links with future aspirations.  What employers want: Skills for the 21st century and recognising own skills and values. How to access labour market information (LMI).   Legal limits and rights at work.  Responsibilities at work.  Online reputation.

Preparing for GCSEs: Identifying learning strengths and setting goals as part of the GCSE options process.

Year 10

Transition to Key Stage 4: Resilience.  Study and learning habits.

Health: Physical health, emotional health, mental health and ill health.  Tackling stigma.

Vehicle Safety: Driver and passenger safety.  Taking risks and the effects of accidents.  Safety campaigns.

Careers:  How to access labour market information (LMI).  Rights and responsibilities in the workplace.  Employment laws and protection against discrimination. Preparing Record of Achievement folders (CV writing, letter writing and personal statements).

Preparing for Interviews: Mock Interview Day (more information will follow).

Internet Safety: Online reputations

Year 11

Wellbeing: Promoting self-esteem and coping with stress.

Learning and revision skills to maximise potential.

Option choices post 16: Careers fair preparation and reflection (more details will follow).  Application process, preparing for interview, post 16 destinations research.

Option choices post 16: How to access labour market information (LMI).  Understanding the post 16 courses application process and plans beyond school.

Careers: Completion of Record of Achievement folder (CV writing, letter writing and personal statements).

Preparing for job interviews.  Employment rights and health and safety laws.

Achieving a work/life balance.

Actions and consequences, empathy, discrimination and prejudice, bullying including cyber bullying.

Managing on- and off-line friendships.

Resilience: Developing presentation skills.

The risks of alcohol, tobacco and drugs.

Managing puberty and the issues of unwanted contact and FGM. 

Body image/self-esteem.

Year 8

Resilience: The role of chemicals in the brain to cause feelings. Coping with negative thoughts and learning from famous failures.

Tackling racism and religious discrimination, promoting human rights. Rights and responsibilities in the community. Tackling age and disability discrimination.

Online Safety - fact or opinion. Who can we trust?

Mental health and emotional wellbeing, including body image.

Digital resilience: issues around social media and selfies.

Media and advertising.

Introduction to sexuality and consent. Positive relationships. Norms and stereotypes. Relationships and boundaries. Dealing with unwanted contact and issues around sexting.

Year 9

Identity and protected characteristics. Tackling homophobia, transphobia and sexism.

Managing conflict at home and the dangers of running away from home.

Managing peer pressure in relation to illicit substances.  Risky situations and consequences.  Decision making.

Health and Cancer.  What is cancer, how to reduce the risk and the effects on family and friends.

 

Year 10

Tackling relationship myths and expectations. Issues around the portrayal of sex in the media and pornography. 

Managing romantic relationship challenges, including break ups.

Romantic and intimate relationships, consent.

British values, human rights and community cohesion.

Understanding diversity, tackling discrimination, challenging offensive behaviour. Group think.

Challenging hate crime, extremism and radicalisation.

Drug and alcohol use in the media. Evaluating the social and emotional risks of drug use. Addiction and the impact and health Implications. Legal risks and where to seek help.

Year 11

Personal values and assertive communication in relationships.

Tackling domestic abuse, honour based violence and forced marriage.

Handling unwanted attention.

Preparation for exam week.

The Rule of Law. Human rights. Migration and international law.

Citizenship, a privilege or a right? Rights and responsibilities of citizens.

Year 7

The different types of relationships, conflict resolution. Qualities and values in a relationship and the value of friendship. The role of parents/carers.

Resilience: Preparation for exam week. Memory techniques, learning spaces, who I learn best with, revision timetables and techniques.

Understanding financial decisions, methods of payment, spending and saving.

Immigration and refugees.

Year 8

Introduction to contraception including condoms and the pill. Issues around unwanted pregnancy.

Coping with change and loss.

Preparation for exam week.

Evaluating value for money in services. Risks and consequences. Making financial decisions.

Resilience: Operation Resilient.Community. Government, political parties, the courts.

Resilience: In their shoes. Researching the life of Nelson Mandela.

Year 9

Preparation for exam week.

Healthy relationships, consent and the law.  The risks of STIs and unprotected sex.  Issues around the portrayal of sex in the media and pornography.

Government, citizenship, the law.  Understanding community cohesion.  How the government works and the voting system. 

 

Year 10

Understanding different families and learning parenting skills.  Fertility and options including adoption, fostering and abortion

Managing change, family break down, grief and bereavement.

Organ Donation.

Preparation for exam week

Understanding the causes and effects of debt. Understanding the risks associated with gambling.  Finance and budgeting.

Year 11

Health and safety in independent contexts.

Taking responsibility for health choices.

Emergency first aid and health concerns. Self-Examination and vaccinations. Accessing health/medical services.

Issues around cosmetic and aesthetic alterations.
